backup page – Accomodation
The Wilds is a self catering lodge that offers comfortable accommodation in a serene and peaceful setting. The lodge sleeps 12 people but additional sleeping space can be arranged for larger groups. It is equipped with gas fridges/stove with the lights being powered by solar. There is a generator on site that serves as a backup or if guests wish to make use of additional lighting or to use the microwave, electric kettle etc. Use of the generator does come at an additional cost, which is specified under the ‘rates’ tab.
The lodge has 4 rooms, 2 bathrooms as well as a good sized kitchen and lounge. There’s the family room that has a queen bed and a single bunk bed, perfect for a couple with young kids. Next is the singles room equipped with a 3quarter bed and a single bed and then there’s the couples room that has a queen bed and finally the dorm styled room that has 5 single beds. Both bathrooms have a flushing toilet and a shower that is supplied with hot water from our solar geyser. The lodge has verandas at both the kitchen and lounge ends where you can sit and enjoy a cuppa whilst preparing your tackle for the next big one or reading your favourite book.
The lodge also provides camping facilities for those that are fully geared but require an enclosed, guarded area to park off and to make use of the ablution facilities.
The Wilds boasts a huge lapa where you can enjoy an outdoor meal, quench your thirst, play a game of cards, or just relax and chat away with family/friends whilst enjoying the ocean view and immediate surroundings.
We have two helpers (Elizabeth and Villella) who provide cleaning and maintenance services daily. Both their costs are included in the daily rate. Elizabeth is responsible for household cleaning and will also bake bread or fat cakes if you like. You just need to bring the relevant ingredients along. If required at an additional cost she can also make your breakfasts. Villella is responsible for general yard maintenance, stocking up on firewood and other odds and ends. You are welcome to tip our staff at the end of your stay.
Cutlery and Linen (sheet, pillow/case, duvet) is provided but patrons are welcome to bring their own if that is their preference.
Please bring your own bath towels and consumables such as toilet paper, air freshener, matches, candles, bug spray, bin bags, flashlight, hand wash detergent etc. If not sure you are welcome to contact our admin office.
Patrons are encouraged to bring their own bottled water for drinking, although treated water is supplied from the nearby dam and available from the taps installed along the road in the village and other locations. Please note that these taps tend to run dry outside the rainy season.
The showers, toilets and sinks are supplied with rain water collected in our water tanks, but due to the scarcity of water patrons are requested to use water sparingly, for example limiting showers to the evenings.
The lodge makes use of a septic tank and given the complexities with this type of system, we request that patrons please avoid discarding objects such as sanitary napkins, tampons, disposable nappies or any other product that does not break down easily, as it will cause the septic tank to block.
There are shops in the village but they sell the bare essentials hence please stock up appropriately before arriving. Should there be a need, the Ngcwanguba store carries a good range of products and is about a 90min drive from the lodge.
You don’t need a 4×4 to get to our lodge (accept for the rainy season) but a vehicle with higher clearance is recommended. You can get to us in a small car but would need to take it very slow on the gravel road.
